Apple initially planned to update the Siri voice assistant with AI-powered features in April alongside iOS 18.4. However, unofficial reports suggested a delay, and now the company has officially confirmed it.
Siri’s AI Upgrade Postponed
Apple admitted that Siri will not receive a modern AI model as soon as expected, as the development process turned out to be more challenging than anticipated. “Siri helps our users find what they need and get things done quickly; in just the last six months, we’ve made Siri more conversational, rolled out new features including Siri messaging and [Apple] product knowledge, and added integration with ChatGPT,” Apple spokeswoman Jacqueline Roy told Daring Fireball.
She also stated that Apple is working on making Siri more personal, with enhanced contextual awareness and the ability to perform actions across apps. However, these features are taking longer to develop than initially planned. “We’re taking longer than we thought to deliver these features, and we expect to roll them out next year,” she added.
Users Will Have to Wait Longer
Tech companies rarely announce product delays this far in advance, and no unofficial sources had previously suggested such a long wait, notes NIX Solutions. This means Siri users who were hoping for a significant AI-driven update soon will need to be patient.
Meanwhile, iOS 18.4 is still scheduled for release in April. It will introduce Apple Intelligence features in their current form in the EU and expand language support. Yet, we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
