Smart home control in the Google ecosystem via the Gemini AI assistant is now available to all users. With this assistant, you can manage smart lighting, home climate, smart speakers, and other compatible devices linked to your Google account.
Natural Language Commands for Ease
Google announced a significant update to its smart home platform in November. Now, you can control devices using natural language. For instance, if you say, “The sun is too bright in the living room,” the system will automatically close the blinds. Gemini AI can also handle multiple requests simultaneously. You could say, “Turn on the light by the chair, but dim the lamp in the kitchen,” and the assistant will execute both commands. Additionally, the assistant answers queries about device statuses, such as whether the light on the porch is on.
Enhanced Interface and Features
Control of “non-critical” smart home devices, like lamps, is now available directly from your phone’s lock screen. Adjusting volume, pausing, and resuming playback on smart speakers, displays, and TVs is possible through the Gemini app. The app also includes a climate control interface, mirroring the design of the Google Home section. However, accessing surveillance cameras and locks still redirects users to the Google Home app, notes NIX Solutions.
The rollout of these features begins today, but it will be gradual. All users in the Google ecosystem will gain access “in the coming weeks.” We’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available, ensuring you can take full advantage of these enhancements.
