NIX Solutions: New Outlook Now Installs Automatically

Microsoft has begun automatically installing the new Outlook on all computers running Windows 10 versions 21H2 and 22H2. Users cannot opt out of this mandatory update, which is delivered through update KB5051974. Released on February 11 as part of Patch Tuesday, this update ensures that the new Outlook is installed alongside the classic version.

The new Outlook app does not replace the existing classic version or modify any user settings, PCWorld reports. Both versions can run simultaneously, and users can find the new Outlook in the “Apps” section of the Start menu.

No Way to Prevent Installation

Microsoft had previously notified users about this change through the Microsoft 365 admin center. For those who wanted early access, an optional update on January 28 allowed voluntary installation. However, the update is now unavoidable.

The company has confirmed that blocking the installation is not possible: “There is currently no way to block the installation of the new Outlook, and if you do not want it to appear on your devices, you can uninstall it after the update.”

Although users cannot prevent the installation, they do have the option to manually remove the new Outlook if they prefer to continue using the classic desktop version or another email client, adds NIX Solutions. We’ll keep you updated on any further changes to Outlook’s installation process.
