OpenAI has announced that its AI-powered search engine in ChatGPT no longer requires registration or login. This update allows ChatGPT to provide answers based on web information while listing the sources used to generate responses.
Expanding Access to AI Search
Initially, OpenAI launched its search engine for paid ChatGPT subscribers in October, later making it available to all users in December. Now, with no registration required, ChatGPT’s search function can directly compete with traditional search engines like Google and Bing, both of which have long integrated AI into their search results.
A recent update has also made ChatGPT’s search more similar to traditional search engines, displaying short descriptions for each search result, as well as maps and images of local attractions.
Competing with Other AI Search Engines
OpenAI is not the first to launch an AI-powered search engine, adds NIX Solutions. Perplexity has also allowed users to search the web without an account and recently integrated hotel information and ratings from TripAdvisor. Yet, we’ll keep you updated as more integrations become available.
