Microsoft is changing how battery levels are displayed in Windows 11. The new update introduces colored indicators, replacing the previous monochrome battery icon with a clearer and more visually distinct design.
For years, Windows users had to rely on an inconspicuous battery icon, but Microsoft has now introduced seven new icons in Windows 11 version 24H2. These redesigned iOS-style icons come in different colors, making it easier to recognize battery status at a glance.
How the New Battery Icons Work
According to Windows Latest, the updated battery indicator changes color depending on the charge level and status:
- A fully charged battery appears black in light mode and white in dark mode.
- When power-saving mode is enabled, the battery glows orange.
- While charging, the icon turns green.
- A thin red bar appears when the charge drops to 1-5%.
Additionally, the new battery icon is longer than the previous one, providing a more noticeable display, notes NIX Solutions. There are also new mini-icons for smart charging, slow charging, missing battery, and no network connection. Microsoft has repositioned these auxiliary icons to be more prominent.
Delayed Release and Future Updates
Originally, the Windows 11 battery icon update was expected to roll out last month. However, Microsoft delayed the release due to a last-minute issue. The update is now making its way to users, and we’ll keep you updated on further improvements.
