Following the explosive release of Capcom’s fantasy action game Monster Hunter Wilds, Steam has set a new personal record for concurrent online users.
At the end of last week, on February 23, both official and unofficial statistics recorded over 39.9 million simultaneous Steam users. However, just a few days later, on March 2 at around 17:00 Moscow time, Steam’s peak online count reached 40,263,966 users. According to SteamDB, the figure was slightly higher—40,270,997.
Peak Players and Top Games
In addition to this overall record, Steam also updated its peak number of users actively in-game. SteamDB reported that 12.7 million users were playing at the same time, surpassing the previous record of 12.5 million set in August.
At the time of this new milestone, the most popular games on the platform were:
- Counter-Strike 2 – 1.75 million concurrent players
- Monster Hunter Wilds – 1.35 million
- PUBG: Battlegrounds – 0.82 million
- Dota 2 – 0.65 million
For comparison, Steam reached 20 million concurrent users less than five years ago, in March 2020. The platform later surpassed 30 million in the fall of 2022, adds NIX Solutions.
Meanwhile, the large-scale demo festival Games to Be (Steam Next Fest) kicked off on February 24. Today, March 2, marks its final full day, with the event set to conclude on March 3.
